Smash (Bruce Banner x Reader)

Prompt: The whole team was down minus you and Tony and the Hulk was destroying more and more of the city with each passing second. It was up to you to calm him down.

"Natasha, I could really use a lullaby.” you head Tony say through the com. Natasha’s way of calming the Hulk down was something you and she had tried to perfect although you always let Natasha perform it since every time Hulk would see you, he would scream loudly and almost try to kill you. No one ever told Bruce though.

“That’s not gonna happen. Not for a while.” you heard Clint reply back. You silently cursed to yourself for not keeping an eye on Bruce properly. You and he were stuck on the quinjet while the others would go and confront Ultron. Things were quite uneventful from your end until you heard the fighting from your com. You told Bruce you would just go and get a few weapons ready in case anything or anyone did come. Sadly, when you got a few guns from the storage, the plane’s hatch was open and Bruce was no where in sight. What scared you though was the loud thundering scream of pain. It sounded like Bruce but then everything went silent. Then you heard Hulk’s scream.

You were frozen. You couldn’t move out of fear but you knew you had to get a move on. Everyone else was apparently unable to function properly. For reasons unknown to you, the only people who could stop Hulk and bring back Bruce was you and Tony.

“Y/N, looks like its up to you.” you heard Tony say desperately.

“What? No I can’t. It was always Nat who did it.” you replied with a clear tone of fear.

“You have to or hundreds of innocents will die.” Tony exclaimed.

You breathed in deeply wondering if you could actually do the job as well as Natasha. “Alright...” you said with a heavy heart.

Tony had picked you up and dropped you off a corner away from where the Hulk was contained. You and Tony knew that the metal casing would not contain the huge green raging big guy for long so you both had to act fast. There was a few seconds where you could only hear the metal being pounded on and then suddenly the whole metal container started to sink into the ground. You were profoundly scared when you couldn’t hear any more mental or concrete being being punched repeatedly.

“Uhh, Y/N, I don’t think he’s in there anymore...” Tony commented. “Well I guess this will be a story to tell everyone later...” Tony said as he

“Quiet!” you shouted as you tried to walk a significantly close but still remotely far distance from where Tony had isolated the big guy.You knitted your eyebrows when you heard the ground shift slightly. It was quick and sudden. Then the sound became more profound.

Your heart felt like it skipped a beat when you realized what the Hulk was doing. “GET BACK!” you screamed but was too late. The raging green big guy burst out of the ground even angrier than before. You were knocked back by a relative distance and landed on your back. Luckily, your outfit was made for heavy duty missions so you weren’t as hurt as you thought you’d be.

“L/N! Are you okay?” you heard Tony yell.

You breathed in deeply and slowly as you tried to register if you were fine or had some broken bones. Thankfully, you weren’t severely injured. The impact was just enough to give you a few minor bruises. You got up as quickly as you could before you saw Tony hover a short distance away from you. You nodded to him as you saw his Iron Man suit transform into to his “Hulk buster” one. You did not like the name because using it meant hurting Hulk and Bruce but it honestly seemed fitting for the current situation.

There he was. As angry as ever. You cursed under your breath hating whatever the witch did to Bruce. He had been doing quite well with his anger management. You and Natasha made sure of that. And now all that progress flew out the window.

“Language, Y/N.” you heard Tony nag from your ear piece. How he had the time to joke at a time like this was one of his more prominent attributes. You merely rolled your eyes and shook your head. If you three got out of this, you made a mental note to hit Tony.

“Alright everybody. Stand down.” you heard Tony’s voice echo from his bulky suit. The panic and fear in the air was evident and growing by the second but everyone obeyed and stayed quiet for the moment.  As Tony tried to talk it out with Hulk to somehow get Bruce to come back, you could only clam up in fear and anticipation. You even feared that you were breathing too heavily. Something was going to tick Hulk off and you didn’t like how many people were around to witness it.

“You’re stronger than her, you’re smarter than her, you’re Bruce Banner.”

Oh Tony.

You didn’t.

Hulk’s anger driven roar followed by Tony’s sassy ‘puny Banner’ comeback had you shocked but then you screamed when you saw Hulk throw a car in Tony’s way. The next few moments were filled with Tony crushing Hulk into the street, Hulk tackling Tony, a lot of punching, flying and destroyed vehicles.

The city would be destroyed before Tony could calm down Bruce. And you were worried that either would go too far and severely hurt the other.

Tony’s left suit arm was broken and all you could do was panic. “Tony, what are you doing? You’ll really hurt him...” you said while dodging the people who were fleeing the scene.

“Your boyfriend will still have his pretty face although he’s not exactly calm Y/N.” Tony said through the loud speaker of his suit. In that moment, Hulk’s facial expression changed into confusion. He muttered your name a few times. Tony noticed this brief change and thought of a possible plan. “You trust me, right Y/N?”

You hesitated while crouching down behind a car for cover. You didn’t know when you’d get an opportunity. “Half the time.” you replied.

“Good enough.” Tony sighed. “Hey big guy. Y/N’s over there. And she wants to talk.”

You were going to kill Tony. The moment he said those words, you hide behind the car again. If you ran off, the big guy would catch up to you. If you hide, then maybe you could get by unnoticed.

Your car protection was suddenly thrown 4 feet in front of you.

“Y/N!”

Oh no.

The big guy looked at you intensely and you couldn’t tell if he was angry or not. But then he screamed. Yeah, he was angry.

“Why!?” you heard Hulk ask.

You stuttered. “Uhh why what big guy?” you said trying to act as normally as possible. You were just going to have a lovely chit chat...with someone who could snap you in half in an instant.

“I see you, heart beat fast. Weird feelings. I smile. Why?” he said not further elaborating.

“I don’t know.” you replied while slowly standing up straight. Then it hit you. Fast heart beat? Strange feelings? Did Hulk have a crush on you? Was he always just more significantly hostile to you because he thought that the feelings he had were making him weak?

“You feel same way?”

You looked up at him. You saw beautiful emerald eyes that were not filled with malice and anger. Just confusion. You doubted many people other than you and Natasha had seen his face this close.

You nodded quickly. “Yes. I do. But they are good feelings.”

Those words made Hulk smile.

“Then you marry Small Banner. So you be with me always.”

Did Hulk just propose for Bruce?

It was strange but you got him to somewhat calm down.

“Always.” you smiled.

It was a cute intimate moment before some idiots started firing at the Hulk again. And off he went, blindly enraged.

You looked back at Tony who was already on his way to calm Bruce down with tough love.

“He won’t remember any of this will he?” you sighed though there was a silver lining in all of this. You would be there for Bruce and Hulk whenever.

“Well...I got that on tape so....”

“TONY!”
