Freak Show (Wanda Maximoff xReader xBucky Barnes)

Prompt: The “Original” Avengers got to go to the carnival and they didn’t invite you? How selfish. If that’s how they want to play then you’d just have to make up your own fun. And you had two of the best people to go with you. Sadly best isn’t what many other people would call you.

Silence.

No Tony, Bruce and Steve arguing.

No Natasha muttering curses in Russian.

No mighty bellowing laughter from Thor.

No rogue arrow sounds from Clint.

Where the hell was everyone?

You leaned against the counter in the tower’s main kitchen helping yourself to some pizza. The place was practically empty and when you texted Natasha where she and everyone was, all you got were three words.

Carnival in town. - N

They didn’t invite you? How rude.

You grabbed a giant slice of pizza and started wolfing it down harshly.

“You’re going to choke if you continue to do that.” you heard a thickly accented voice chide.

You stared the source of the voice to find a pale dark haired beauty. She looked tough and boy did she act tough at times but you knew the girl behind Scarlet Witch for so much more than that. Her name was Wanda Maximoff, an agent with extraordinary powers like yourself.

“I’m mad okay? I deserve to eat as much pizza as I can.” you muttered as you stuffed your face with more pizza. Surprisingly, Wanda didn’t stop you. She actually leaned closer to you. Really close. Your heart started to race. Was she going to kiss you?

Wanda bit her lip in a way that drove you crazy before she withdrew; pizza slice in hand. ‘I’m such an idiot.’ you thought to yourself.

“You are. But a cute idiot.” Wanda smiled as she took a bite of the pizza.

Your eyes widened. Wanda just used her powers. That was a foul. “Hey that’s not fair!” you whined. “No powers on each other!”

Wanda just laughed at you. You guessed being Pietro’s twin meant that she also had a liking for mischief. But that wasn’t fair. She could easily use her powers to get inside your head. She could easily manipulate your thoughts to do what she wanted. But you knew she would only do this on a minimal prankster level. She’d never do anything to harm you.

You dropped your half eaten pizza and ran up to her. Wanda tried to dodge you but you grabbed hold of her shoulder and you both vanished in a blink of an eye.

You both reappeared in the main living room quarter floor. It didn’t hurt when you both fell on the floor because Tony had graciously carpeted the area. It was a snug fall but a fall nonetheless. You managed to recover first from the slight daze that teleporting had done so you quickly got up and pinned Wanda on the floor with your hands.

“How did you like that, Maximoff?” you smirked seeing her slightly irritated facial expression. She didn’t move for a few seconds before she opened her eyes and smiled brightly.

“I can tell that you’ve wanted to do this for a while now.” she said in a sassy tone. What was she talking about? Then you realized the position you were in. Pinning her to the wall. Damn you Maximoff.

“You did it again! Wanda! That’s not fair-” you screamed as you involuntarily used your powers out of pure embarrassment while taking Wanda with you.

You and Wanda suddenly reappeared in a bright room. You both appeared near a wall so what happened next wasn’t so bad.

You were an inch away from being flattened by a rather fast swinging fist. An inch. “Holy shit!” you screamed as your heart felt like it was about to explode.

The metal arm retracted and you saw a big hole an inch from where your head was. You turned to the owner your supposed killer and saw Bucky look at you blankly before he looked away. He muttered a quiet apology and you sighed heavily in relief. The super soldier sure knew how to fight. He was enhanced like you and Wanda but in a way that was built for assassinations. One clear punch from him would send you to the hospital. You knew he didn’t mean it. You and Wanda suddenly appeared in the training room where he would usually spend his time. Bucky just had amazing reaction time and for once you were glad that his accuracy was off. You walked over to Bucky to pat him on the shoulder but then you hesitated to do so because you might trigger his assassin mode again. “Uhhh, sorry Bucky.” you apologized.

Bucky gave you a small smile. To many people, they’d just see the corner of his mouth twitch. But to you, it was a cute smile.

Wanda raised her eyebrow at the awkward scene. She looked at Bucky for a moment and then to you.  You three were an odd bunch. All enhanced in some way. All with pasts that you’d rather not talk about.

“Well this is awkward…” you muttered.

“Learn to control where you go Y/N.” Wanda teased. “Then maybe you wouldn’t get into so much trouble.”

“If we all learned to control ourselves better, maybe they’d invite us to hang out with them…” you pouted as you walked up to one of the benches in the room and sat down. Bucky and Wanda looked at each other then approached you.

“That’s not why they left.” Bucky stated firmly.

You didn’t budge from your sulking form but merely looked up at him. “Why not? I mean look at us. We’re not exactly subtle.” you said as you sighed dreading the aftermath of your powers take their toll on you. You felt a jolting pain race through your whole body. A mild electricity generated from your body and shocked you slightly. You gasped at the mild pain. It was a stupid after effect of your power. If you didn’t have that, you would probably be let out on more missions. You suddenly felt another jolt of electricity run through you.

This time it was more painful. You felt like crying but then you felt hands grab on to yours. Not just one but two. You looked up and saw both Bucky and Wanda with concern in their eyes.

“I-Is this what always happens to you?” Bucky slowly asked.

“Oh Y/N. I didn’t know.” Wanda cried out with an apologetic tone.

You felt much better as you held their hands. Wanda’s hand was slender and smooth to your touch while Bucky’s hand was warm and rough. It was nice. You suddenly felt the electricity generate at your chest and you quickly let go of their hands. But they quickly grabbed your hands again. And all three of you groaned at the tingling pain.

When it finally stopped, you looked at them with such a confused expression. “Why? You didn’t have to get hurt…”

“We’re responsible for what has happened to you…If you weren’t this stressed out all of a sudden-” Wanda started. But Bucky interrupted. “Did it help?”

You opened your mouth to speak but then stopped and smiled slowly. “Y-yeah. It wasn’t as bad as it normally would.” The two were being so sweet.

“Oh Y/N. Let me make it up to you.” Wanda offered.

You raised your eyebrow at her and Bucky mimicked your gesture also looking at her. The dark haired Maximoff smiled sweetly. “We’re going to the carnival too.” she smiled clearly excited. She looked to Bucky and added “All three of us.”

You bit your lip. This could be the best idea or the worst idea ever.

“Alright, but you’re paying, Maximoff.”

So here you were at the carnival. There was a relative amount of people during the night life phase of the carnival. You were somewhat bothered though by how the path way of people would open up when the three of you walked by. What was wrong? You, Wanda and Bucky passed by the hall of mirrors booth and you stared at the little trio you three had made.

There was Wanda. Her hair braided to the side as she wore a cute black mini skirt,  red blouse and black blazer. She looked just like a normal young lady. Just with scary psychic red mist powers. But you thought she looked lovely. A true foreign beauty.

Then your eyes went to Bucky. He had his hair in a neat pony tail  with a baseball hat and wore a dark navy tank top covered by a nice dark jacket and long pants. Despite how he was trying to hide most of his body, specifically his arm, he looked good. His work out was working out for him.

And lastly was you. You didn’t know what to wear on such short notice so you just went for a plain colored shirt of your favorite color, your favorite jacket and cargo pants. You dressed for comfort and by the looks and stares of everyone you sure needed as much as you could get. You stared at the sign for the hall of mirrors exhibit and caught a glimpse of your eyes. They were still red from the brief crying you did from the aftermath of using your power. Great. You looked stoned.

What a lovely strange trio. No wonder people stared.

You kept your eyes closed and breathed heavily.

You weren’t scared.

You just had something in your eyes.

You were not scared.

A loud screeching laughter was suddenly played in your face and you screamed. Yeah you were scared.

It was Wanda’s idea to visit the horror house. You were confident at the time. Bucky had a nonchalant nod and attitude and you didn’t want to look like a chicken. So you agreed. That made Wanda smile brightly at you.

Now you were dead scared as the three of you tried to finish the horror house. It was eerie and dark and the rustling noises were making you paranoid. There were errie picture frames filled with creepy pictures of old and probably dead people. There was also a lot of cobweb props and smoke coming from strategically placed smoke machines. Heck there was even fake blood splattered across the walls. Damn, what was the budget of this horror place? It tried its best to make everything look scary.

You were trying your best to stay calm. But you felt your lip shiver as you anticipated the next jump scare. Any moment now. Come on!

“Boo!” you flinched immediately and was about to hit the staff member who hit you but you stopped when you realized it was just Wanda.

“Please…don’t do that. You already got me in here.” you whined. “Let’s get outta here and go somewhere kid friendly…like the bumper cars…”

“Oh…well, we’re kinda stuck here, Sparky” Wanda commented quietly while giving you a cute nickname. But she also sounded scared.

“WHAT?” you screamed.

Bucky walked up to where Wanda was standing and knocked on the wall beside her. “She’s right. I think we have to wait in here for a bit.”

Your panic was going crazy and that’s when you felt something crawl up your leg. You couldn’t tell if it actually was one but you swore it was a giant animatronic spider.

“OH NO. HELL NO.” you screamed as you grabbed Bucky and Wanda’s hands as tight as possible. “I CAN”T DO THIS. I’M OUT!”

Before you disappeared, you heard Wanda shout. “No! Y/N wait–”

There was a reason you weren’t allowed on most missions. You didn’t think things through.

The three of you appeared on a stage in the middle of the park. It would have been fine if there was a show going on. But the three of you appeared so suddenly, it surprised many people passing by. Some clapped at you thinking it was a good trick. Others stared at you like you were naked.

Your heart rate was going up. You were feeling the lingering effects of your spider scare along with the sudden feelings of panic at all the people staring at you like you were some weirdo.

Wanda’s eyes opened widely in shock. “Y/N. Calm down…Its alright. We’re far away from the scary place” she tried to coo.

Your lips shivered and then it happened just as you feared. The surge of electrical energy. It hit the three of you like it did earlier but with a much higher voltage. It was probably because the distance between where you disappeared and where you appeared was a large gap. The three of you screamed in pain and you managed to let go of Wanda’s hand. She fell to her knees immediately. Bucky didn’t let you go and part of you really appreciated it. The other part of you was feeling like the worst person in the world as you heard him scream in pain. As the electricity finally toned down, at least for the time being, you noticed that Bucky’s metal arm started to twitch.

That was not a good sign.

You started feeling tears form in your eyes. This was your fault. You suddenly felt this comforting yet alien comforting feeling and noticed the red mist that had suddenly surrounded you and Bucky. You looked to Wanda who was trying her best to soothe the two of you. But it was not working fast enough for you to ignore.

To make matters worse, your involuntary outburst drew a lot of attention. A lot. People were staring at you. You even heard some people call out to you.

Freak

Weirdo

Loser.

Those were just a few of the unkind things they called you. You felt like crying and you tried your best to quickly wipe the tears that had started to form. You didn’t want to cry. You tried to run from the scene but you felt a strong grip on your wrist. Looking back, you saw Bucky. His eyes intensely staring at your own. “No good will happen if you run Y/N.” Ouch. Coming from Bucky, that was harsh.

But you wanted to run. People were calling you a freak. And because they were trying to help you, Bucky and Wanda were also being involved. Soon, there were a lot of people whispering about you three.

You were the worst person in the world for letting this happen. You should not have agreed to go out. You weren’t ready to control your powers.

You were about to cry again when you noticed a little girl about the age of six walk up to the three of you. She looked at you but not with a judgmental eyes but curious happy ones. You wiped away the last of your tears and looked at her wondering what she was doing. She smiled up at Wanda then at Bucky before she approached you. She held up her hand and motioned you to meet her at eye level.

You were startled by it but slowly kneeled down. The girl’s smile faded and became a curious expression as she moved her hand closer to your face. You felt scared and suddenly felt the electricity start to regenerate. You moved back but then Wanda put a hand on your shoulder. “No, its alright. Let her touch you.” she insisted. “Alexandria?” Wanda cooed at the girl. Wait what?

You were confused but you trusted Wanda and leaned into the girl’s hand. Strangely she wasn’t shocked or affected by the electricity you made. She smiled brightly at you then looked to Bucky. She muttered something to him and he smiled back and responded with a few words. Now you didn’t know Russian so all you had was a raised eyebrow as Bucky and Wanda got up. They looked back at you.

“Uhh…see I am totally missing something here.” You whined.

Wanda smiled softly at you as she held her hand out. “Its a surprise.”

“Freak!” you heard people say as you followed the girl. The girl just laughed and stick out her tongue. You looked at the little Russian speaking girl with such curiosity. Why was she so unaffected?

You heard her call out to someone happily. “Mama!”

A really tall dark skinned lady appeared from where she was sitting. She was pretty, bright eyes, full lips, high cheekbones. All was not out of the ordinary. Except she had a beard. Whoa.

You looked to your left and saw man who had tattoos all over his body. And beside him was a short man who was as buff as Thor.

“Uhh hello?” you said with the most confused expression in the world.

“Mama! They’re like us!” Alexandria said happily in English.

Like us? You mean…

You looked up to see a giant sign board. “Welcome to the Freak Show.”

Your expression never changed.

“I’m so sorry, my name is Mia. Did my Alexandria bother you? She just likes to make friends…” the lady mused as she ticked Alexandria.

“How can she–how did she manage not not get hurt by my electricity?” you asked as you showed the lady your palm that would have surges of electricity every so often.

The lady laughed. “Ahh is that why you brought them here?” she said before standing up. “Welcome my friends to the Freak Show.”

“Freak Show?”

“You act like many of our family members. They were scared of what people thought of them. You, girl, what can you do?” she said while pointing to Wanda. The Maximoff smiled as she raised her palms and made the books on the table near them dance.

The bearded lady, Mia looked at Wanda with such a happy expression. “What a lovely gift!” She then turned to Bucky who shyly shed his jacket to reveal his metal arm. He stared at the small muscular man and they immediately tried to arm wrestle. Bucky won of course and you smiled proudly yet shyly at him as he winked at you. You felt your heart skip a beat. That was attractive.

“And you?” Mia asked with a motherly smile.

You hesitated. “Uhhh….”

“Go on Y/N.” Wanda encouraged as Bucky nodded.

You then took a deep breath in before you vanished into thin air. You then appeared between Bucky and Wanda then disappeared again. You then appeared infront of Mia and bowed lowly.

Everyone that saw you clapped and cheered.

“What are your names my darlings?”

Wanda smiled knowing exactly what to say. “I am Scarlet Witch. That is the Winter Soldier. And that….is Sparky.”

You gave her a face. “I have a code name too and you choose Sparky?” Wanda just laughed and Bucky chuckled.

“Well, you three are all amazing. All specially made.” She didn’t need to know how right she was about that. “Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. We’re so glad we got to see you.”

You felt happy and warm at her motherly words.

Then you heard Wanda gasp in happiness. “Y/N! Look you didn’t get totally electrified.”

Sure enough, you didn’t feel any pain. You just looked at your hands and saw that the sparks were only generating there and that is when Alexandria grabbed both your hands. She looked up at you and smiled. “You’ll come back and visit us again before we leave right Sparky?”

Wanda laughed without restraint. “Look what you did…” you whined as Wanda went to you and kissed you on the cheek.

So you three were an odd bunch. So what?

You were freaks? Game on. You three looked at each other. Happy to be in each other’s company.
